OPPOSE CHURCH FIELDS
ACTION GROUP
FIGHT
STEPPED UP TO STOP HOMES PLAN FRIDAY, MAY 12 -
AROUND 160 people packed the first public meeting of the Opposition Church
Fields group on Tuesday. The clubhouse of Daventry and District Golf Club
was filled as those attending organised themselves against the Church Fields
development off Norton Road. The group hopes to stop any of the proposed 4,000
homes being built to the east of Daventry Country Park. People spoke about
their concerns over the development and began to map out their campaign to
stop the Croudace plans. Samantha Webb said at the opening of the meeting:
"Opposition Church Fields is about the majority of people in Daventry and
the surrounding area who are opposed to this development." The group already
has more than 1,000 signatures on its petition and at the meeting discussed
other ways to get its message across. Daventry Town councillor Sally Ryves
said: "The district council has not done enough to distance itself from this
or the Burnt Walls development. "We need to target representatives of Daventry
who are on the WNDC." Caroline Matthews, from Weedon Parish Council and Daventry
Villages Together, said: "I don't care if this is a done deal – I don't want
to see these houses being built and think I didn't do anything to stop them."
Bill Spencer said: "The one thing you all can do is show your faces at the
council meetings. You have to get up there and you have to stand face-to-face
with them – you can't just come to one meeting and walk away." People dug
deep as they left the meeting to help fund the campaign and appeals were made
for people to help in any way they can – by delivering information, writing
letters or seeking advice. The group is planning a protest march to deliver
their petition to district councillors.
